Dining Review: Derive Café

*insert battle city opening theme song*

As we stepped inside, the first thing we heard was Battle City’s opening theme song. Mom and I looked at each other teary eyed. This reminded us of my grandmother.

I would say my interest of video games came from my lola. She had them all – from family computer to PSOne. She played almost every day but I’d say she mastered Super Mario, Battle City, Adventure Island, Ice Climber, Sonic the Hedgehog, Bust a Groove, Bomberman, Tetris and Pacman.

Pacman Arcade

Every corner of this café reminded me of her. Neon lights, movie icons murals, and of course the arcade games!

Derive Cafe Arcade Area

Forgetting about what we ordered, we played around in their arcade space. It’s like Glico’s if you remember that one. My dad would take me there after school to play while eating pizza.

You need the new five peso coins to use as tokens, and their cashier would happily exchange your bills for them if you don’t have any. Near the cashier is their crane machine and their washroom, designed like a Tetris game.

Now about the food! We ordered Big Joe American Breakfast Plate, Derive Signature Burger, Donkey Kong Pork Barrel Plate, and Bowzer Adobo Ribs.

Big Joe American Breakfast Plate passed dad’s palette. He raved about how he liked the sausage, and everyone had a taste and agreed it was good.

Derive Signature Burger has this thick and juicy patty, I am unsure why this is their signature as I can’t tell what distinct taste they have compared to other burgers. This is good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I’m just so happy they served this with a generous amount of fries and crisp onion rings.

Donkey Kong Pork Barrel Plate. It’s pork belly. Very flavorful paired with I think Mang Tomas and atchara. Pinoy comfort food feels.

Bowzer Adobo Ribs is your fall-of-the-bone-tender kind of ribs. This for me is a must try.

Derive Café is a place where you and your friends and family can comfortably hang out and have a good time in. Better get your coins ready, enjoy, be full, and have fun!
